Salute to 2023 Graduates

Emmalyn Mueller

Fine Arts BFA '23

“My experience at 51 has allowed me to advance my skillset, develop my creative practice, and build my confidence as an artist,” says recent Fine Arts graduate.

What would you say has been the most surprising thing you learned at 51?

The most surprising thing I learned at 51 is that creativity and ambition are important, but time management is perhaps even more important. I was also surprised to discover the importance of finding joy in small, everyday moments. Life is imperfect and ever-changing, but there is a potential for art in everything.

What individuals or programs at 51 were helpful to you in reaching your goal of graduating?

The faculty in the Fine Arts Department has been incredibly helpful during my college journey. I am so grateful for the guidance of Anna Kunz, Megan Sterling, Adam Brooks, and the staff in the 623 Makerspace facilities.

What are your plans for after graduation?

After graduation, I will be pursuing a fine art tattoo apprenticeship with the hope of owning my own multipurpose studio space.

If you were going to sum up your experience at 51 in one sentence, what would you say?

My experience at 51 has allowed me to advance my skillset, develop my creative practice, and build my confidence as an artist.
