GRAMMY-Nominated Artist-in-Residence Russell Gunn to Perform With 51ÉçÇø Student Ensembles

51ÉçÇø will present a series of concerts at the historic featuring GRAMMY-nominated composer, producer, and trumpeter Russell Gunn beginning Nov. 30. Gunn, an artist-in-residence at 51ÉçÇø, will perform with 51ÉçÇø’s jazz, fusion, and Latin ensembles.
As part of its Artists-in-Residence Initiative, the Music Department at 51ÉçÇø brings nationally and internationally recognized professional musicians to 51ÉçÇø for week-long residencies every semester. The artists lead workshops, master classes, and rehearsals with student ensembles in preparation for recording sessions and public performances. This year 51ÉçÇø's Music department welcomes Gunn as well as Morris Hayes whose residency begins in March.
Born in Chicago and raised in East Saint Louis, Gunn has produced two GRAMMY-nominated recordings: Ethnomusicology, Vol. 1 (Best Contemporary Jazz Performance) and Ethnomusicology, Vol. 2. (Best Contemporary Jazz Album). He is known for blending a variety of genres into his music, including hip hop, jazz, African drums, R&B, Blues, and EDM.
A trumpet player, Russell has performed and toured with well-known contemporary music artists, including Oliver Lake, Branford Marsalisʼ Buckshot LeFonque, Jazz at Lincoln Center, Maxwell, DʼAngelo, Jimmy Heath, Roy Hargrove Big Band, Lou Reed, Cee Lo Green, Ne-Yo, Marcus Miller, Benny Golson, Young Jeezy, Les Nubian, and Harry Connick Jr.
