Biography
John Mossman has written and directed numerous award-winning films, earning best-of-fests worldwide and screenings at Palm Springs, Aspen, and LA鈥檚 DGA, Chinese Theater and Egyptian Theater as part of the American Cinemateque Series.聽His recent feature聽Good Guy With A Gun聽has been heralded for its unique portrayal of gun culture in America. Also a documentarian, he received Telly and Voice awards for portraits of teens struggling with mental illness.聽Co-founder of Artistic Home Theater he received Jeff awards for his adaptation of Paddy Chayefsky鈥檚聽The Goddess, as well as his direction of聽Requiem For a Heavyweight聽and was named a聽Director of the Year by WBEZ聽radio. He has taught at Second City, in Dublin, and Thailand where he was co-creator of a healing ritual performance in Hell鈥檚 Pass. An invited participant at Wesleyan University鈥檚 Institute For The Study of Guns In Society and the ASU symposium on Guns in Society, he has participated on panels and on an ongoing Gun Lethality Index study.聽Founder of South Side Filmmaking Youth Initiative, for 18 years he mentored Chicago high school students, garnering the young filmmakers worldwide screenings and two national Emmy Awards. He is currently shooting the proof of concept for the episodic聽Nobody Fucking Leaves, and is a graduate of the聽University of Wisconsin-Madison. A maker of films born of dreams and strict adherent to the no assholes on set policy, he has also taught at Harold Ramis Film School and Northwestern University as Assistant Professor of Instruction.聽
