Biography
Christopher Shaw (he/him) is currently serving as an Assistant Provost for Faculty Affairs, and is an Associate Professor of Mathematics in the School of Communication and Culture, where he teaches across all of the areas of math and quantitative reasoning, most notably the course Math in Art and Nature. His recent open-source book, Philosophical Geometry: Finding Math in Art and Nature, is pending publication, but is available in draft form on his website, schris.com.
He did his undergraduate work at The George Washington University, where he studied Mathematics and Spanish Language & Literature, and earned a PhD in Mathematics from University of Maryland, College Park in 2008. His mathematical research work focused on model theory, a field within mathematical logic, and he currently works in the scholarship of teaching and learning mathematics. He is particularly interested in finding ways to incorporate student-led investigation into his mathematics courses.聽
